Meet Benson
Benson Fischer is the Founder and CEO of ZivZo Marketing Group, a Maryland based marketing and business consulting firm serving clients across the United States. With more than 45 years of entrepreneurial experience spanning hospitality, manufacturing, real estate, auctions, and marketing, he has spent much of his career building, operating, and transforming businesses. Today, he draws on those decades of firsthand experience to help business owners navigate growth, challenges, and change.
A Life Defined by Building
Some careers follow a carefully planned path. Others are shaped by experience, risk, and a willingness to learn through action. Benson Fischer’s story belongs firmly in the second category.
For more than four decades, he has lived inside the realities of entrepreneurship. He has built businesses from the ground up, managed teams through uncertainty, navigated economic shifts, and solved problems that rarely appear in business textbooks. Throughout his journey, one thing has remained consistent: his belief that true business knowledge comes from doing the work rather than simply studying it.
Today, Benson leads ZivZo Marketing Group, but his story began long before marketing became his primary focus. His perspective was formed through years spent operating businesses across multiple industries, each one teaching lessons that would later become part of the guidance he offers others.

What distinguishes his approach is not a collection of theories or frameworks. It is the accumulation of lessons earned through experience, setbacks, victories, and countless decisions made under pressure.
Learning Business From the Ground Up
Benson’s professional life was never confined to a single industry. Throughout his entrepreneurial journey, he built and operated businesses that demanded different skills, different perspectives, and different approaches to leadership.
Over the years, he designed, constructed, and operated more than fifty restaurants. He also ventured into manufacturing and distribution, bringing beverage and bakery products to markets across the country. Beyond that, he owned a commercial real estate brokerage firm licensed in four states and operated an auction company that served six states.
Each venture presented unique opportunities and challenges. Instead of becoming comfortable in one area, Benson continuously pushed himself into new environments where learning was unavoidable.

One venture that particularly reflects Benson’s entrepreneurial instincts was Coin X Change, a company that placed coin-counting machines in supermarket chains as a direct competitor to CoinStar. By offering retailers a more attractive financial model, Coin X Change quickly gained market share and secured accounts away from the industry leader. The company’s rapid success ultimately led CoinStar to acquire Coin X Change less than two years after it launched, a testament to Benson’s ability to identify market opportunities, create competitive value, and build businesses that attracted industry attention.
His career reflects a pattern of curiosity paired with action. Rather than following a conventional corporate ladder, he repeatedly chose to build something of his own. Every business expanded his understanding of operations, customer behavior, leadership, sales, and risk management.
Those experiences gave him something that cannot easily be taught in a classroom: perspective. He learned what it means to sign paychecks, navigate cash flow challenges, manage crises, and make difficult decisions when the outcome is uncertain.
As industries evolved and markets shifted, Benson adapted alongside them. That adaptability would become one of the defining characteristics of his career.
When Resilience Becomes the Real Achievement
Most entrepreneurial stories focus on milestones and accomplishments. Benson sees things differently.
Looking back on more than 45 years in business, he does not point to revenue figures, acquisitions, or expansion projects as his greatest achievements. Instead, he points to something less visible but far more important.
His proudest accomplishment is resilience.
Throughout his career, he faced economic downturns, operational disruptions, real estate challenges, supply chain issues, and unexpected crises that could have ended businesses built over many years. Yet time after time, he found ways to adapt.
For Benson, resilience is not about avoiding hardship. It is about responding to hardship with clarity and determination.

His experiences taught him that challenges are not exceptions to business ownership. They are part of the reality. Every entrepreneur eventually encounters circumstances beyond their control. What matters is how they respond.
One experience illustrates that philosophy particularly well. Benson acquired the iconic Montgomery Donut Company, a Washington, D.C. brand that had been operating since the 1940s, through a bankruptcy auction. The acquisition included a 25,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and nine retail stores. He strategically sold eight of the locations, licensed the Montgomery Donut name to the new owners, and continued supplying them with products. He also secured Starbucks as a customer, supplying bakery products to approximately 1,000 of its locations.
Then disaster struck. A massive blizzard destroyed the entire manufacturing facility. Rebuilding would have taken at least a year and brought the business to a standstill. Instead of viewing the catastrophe as the end of the company, Benson quickly pivoted by partnering with a large contract bakery to produce Montgomery Donuts’ products using the company’s original recipes. The decision kept operations running without interruption and delivered an unexpected advantage: eliminating the overhead of operating a manufacturing facility more than doubled the company’s profit margins. For Benson, the experience reinforced one of the most valuable lessons in entrepreneurship, that resilience is not simply surviving setbacks but finding opportunities within them.

One of the most important lessons he learned is that panic rarely solves problems. Successful leaders remain focused, assess the situation honestly, and identify practical solutions.
His ability to navigate difficult situations became one of the foundations of his leadership philosophy. Rather than being defined by obstacles, he chose to view them as opportunities to rethink, adjust, and move forward.
Over time, this mindset transformed setbacks into valuable learning experiences. Each challenge strengthened his ability to lead through uncertainty and helped shape the practical wisdom he now shares with others.
A Shift From Building Businesses to Helping Business Owners
After decades spent creating and operating companies, Benson reached a point where his motivation began to evolve.
When he sold his final restaurant in 2016, he had already experienced more than most entrepreneurs encounter in a lifetime. He could have stepped away and enjoyed the success he had worked so hard to achieve.
Instead, he chose a different path.
That decision led to the creation of ZivZo Marketing Group.

The transition was not about starting another company simply for the sake of growth. It reflected a deeper purpose that had emerged over years of working with business owners.
He understood how overwhelming entrepreneurship could be. He knew the pressure of making critical decisions, managing uncertainty, and carrying responsibility for employees, customers, and financial outcomes.
More importantly, he understood how isolating that experience can feel.
As Benson explains,
“What drives my work and leadership today comes down to a very simple reality: I’ve been in the trenches, and I know how lonely and brutal it can be for a business owner trying to navigate it all alone.”
That realization became the foundation of his current mission.
Instead of focusing exclusively on building his own enterprises, he began helping other entrepreneurs benefit from the lessons he had already learned.
Bringing Real World Experience to Marketing
In many ways, Benson’s approach to marketing is different because he did not enter the industry through a traditional marketing background.
He arrived there as a business owner.

That distinction shapes how he works with clients today.
Having managed operations across multiple industries, he understands that marketing does not exist in isolation. It is connected to sales, customer experience, profitability, operations, and long term sustainability.
Through ZivZo Marketing Group, he and his team help organizations strengthen visibility, generate leads, and communicate their value more effectively. Yet beneath the tactics and campaigns is a broader objective: helping businesses create stronger foundations for growth.
His recommendations are informed by decades of firsthand experience rather than theory alone. He understands the practical realities that business owners face because he has faced them himself.
This perspective allows him to see challenges through the eyes of the people he serves. Rather than viewing businesses as abstract organizations, he sees the individuals behind them and the risks they carry every day.
For many clients, that practical understanding becomes just as valuable as the marketing services themselves.
Redefining Success Through Experience

One of the most interesting aspects of Benson’s story is how his definition of success has evolved over time.
Early in a career, success is often measured by growth, revenue, recognition, or expansion. While those metrics remain important, experience has taught him to focus on deeper measures of achievement.
Today, he views success through three pillars: autonomy, impact, and resilience.
Autonomy reflects the freedom to make decisions and control one’s direction. Impact speaks to the ability to create meaningful value for others. Resilience represents the capacity to endure challenges while continuing to move forward.
These priorities reflect the wisdom that often comes with experience. They are less concerned with external validation and more focused on creating lasting significance.
For Benson, success is not a destination reached once and celebrated forever. It is an ongoing process of growth, contribution, and adaptation.
That perspective influences how he leads, advises clients, and approaches new opportunities.
Leadership Grounded in Honesty
Across every chapter of his career, certain values have remained constant.
Leadership, honesty, and transparency continue to guide his decisions.
While industries have changed dramatically over the past 45 years, Benson believes these principles remain timeless. Markets evolve, technology advances, and strategies shift, but trust remains at the center of every successful business relationship.
His leadership style reflects this belief.
Rather than relying on complicated management philosophies, he emphasizes clear communication, accountability, and integrity. He understands that long term success depends on credibility, and credibility is built through consistent actions over time.
These values have helped him navigate periods of growth as well as moments of crisis. They continue to shape how he interacts with clients, partners, and team members today.
Looking Toward the Next Chapter
Although Benson has already accomplished more than most entrepreneurs could imagine, he remains focused on the future.
His attention is centered on expanding the reach and impact of ZivZo Marketing Group while continuing to develop practical resources for business owners.

What excites him is not maintaining what already exists. It is finding new ways to help organizations gain leverage, strengthen their position, and adapt to an increasingly competitive marketplace.
His vision is rooted in empowerment.
He wants business owners to have access to guidance that comes from experience rather than theory. He wants them to feel better equipped to navigate challenges and seize opportunities. Most importantly, he wants them to understand that obstacles can be overcome with the right mindset and strategy.
His future plans reflect the same entrepreneurial spirit that has guided him for decades. The industries may change, but the mission remains consistent: helping people build stronger businesses and greater confidence in their ability to lead.
The Wisdom Earned Through Experience
After more than 45 years of entrepreneurship, Benson Fischer has reached a stage where his greatest contribution may not be the businesses he built, but the lessons he now shares.

His journey is a reminder that longevity in business is rarely the result of perfect circumstances. It comes from resilience, adaptability, and the willingness to keep moving forward when conditions become difficult.
As he reflects on the lessons that matter most, one belief stands above the rest:
“Don’t wait for perfect conditions. Trust your instincts, protect your bottom line, and remember that the hardest days write your blueprint for longevity.”
That perspective captures the essence of his story. It is not a story about avoiding challenges. It is about meeting them head on, learning from them, and using those lessons to help others find their own path forward. In a world often focused on quick wins and shortcuts, Benson’s journey stands as a powerful reminder that experience remains one of the most valuable teachers of all.
