Still, there was a quiet feeling that education and ambition alone would eventually unlock every opportunity she wanted. That belief encouraged her to continue investing in herself.
In 2015, she made a decision that many only dream about. After receiving a scholarship, she left her corporate role to pursue a second master’s degree in London.
Coming from a small Caribbean island, studying in one of the world’s great cities represented far more than another academic achievement. It was the realization of a long held dream and a chance to broaden her perspective beyond the familiar.
She completed her Master of Science in Management believing it would strengthen her career and create new opportunities once she returned home.
Instead, life offered a very different lesson.
When Expectations Collide With Reality
Returning home with three university degrees should have been the beginning of a new chapter filled with possibilities. Instead, it became one of the most uncertain periods of Jamila’s life.
Despite her education and experience, employment opportunities remained painfully limited. Applications produced few results, and the qualifications she believed would distinguish her seemed to make little difference.
Like many professionals facing unexpected setbacks, she questioned her own value.
Rather than allowing those difficult months to define her, she searched for another way forward.

Life had one more unexpected turn waiting for her.

After years of uncertainty, Jamila finally secured what became the highest paying position of her career.
It seemed as though every sacrifice had finally paid off.
Only four months later, everything changed.
At the age of thirty seven, she was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer.
The diagnosis instantly shifted her priorities. Professional titles, academic accomplishments, and career ambitions suddenly became secondary to something much deeper.
Facing a life threatening illness forced her to ask questions that had little to do with employment or achievement.
How was she using her gifts?
What kind of impact was she leaving behind?
What would remain if her career ended tomorrow?
As she moved through treatment and recovery, she met countless women experiencing similar fears, uncertainty, and emotional challenges. Conversations naturally turned toward hope, confidence, identity, and rebuilding life beyond illness.
Her years of experience in communication suddenly took on a completely different meaning.
She realized she had not been developing those skills merely to climb a corporate ladder. They had prepared her to encourage, educate, and guide women through some of the most difficult seasons of their lives.
Reflecting on that realization, she says,
“Meeting countless women on my healing journey confirmed for me that my years spent working in communication, marketing and speaking were meant to do more than help me find work. They were a God given gift to help other women find their path.”
