Meet Danny
For more than two decades, Danny Glassmann worked at the heart of higher education, helping students, staff, and institutions navigate growth, uncertainty, crisis, and change. From leadership positions at universities across the United States to serving as Associate Vice President and Dean of Students at The Ohio State University, his career has been defined by one enduring question: what helps people feel like they truly belong?
Today, as Founder and Principal of Wired for Belonging, Danny is bringing that question into a new chapter. His work sits at the intersection of leadership, organizational culture, human connection, and ethical artificial intelligence. Through his HeartWired™ methodology, he helps leaders and institutions create environments where belonging, wellbeing, and sustainable success are woven into the fabric of everyday work rather than treated as aspirational ideals.
What makes Danny’s perspective particularly compelling is that it has been shaped not only by academic research and executive leadership, but also by personal transformation. His journey includes moments of loss, reinvention, resilience, and reflection that have fundamentally influenced how he thinks about leadership and the systems we create.
At a time when organizations are grappling with burnout, disconnection, and rapid technological change, Danny is advocating for a different future. One where technology supports humanity rather than replacing it. One where people do not have to sacrifice themselves in order to succeed. And one where belonging is not a buzzword, but a measurable and meaningful part of how communities thrive.
From Rural Arkansas to Finding His Calling
Long before he became known as a thought leader in belonging and leadership, Danny was a first generation college student growing up in rural Northeast Arkansas.
Like many young people navigating unfamiliar territory, he did not have a detailed blueprint for his future. What he did have was curiosity, determination, and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Education held a special place in his imagination from an early age. At his kindergarten graduation, he proudly announced that he wanted to become a teacher when he grew up. He also planned to own a candy store and live in a blue castle. While time eventually redirected some of those ambitions, the desire to educate and support others never disappeared.
When Danny entered university, he chose to study computer science. Technology fascinated him, and he was excited by its possibilities. Yet some of the most important lessons he learned during those years had little to do with programming or technical systems.
Instead, they emerged through campus leadership opportunities, residence life, and student organizations. It was there that he discovered the profound impact of helping people feel valued, connected, and supported.
A mentor eventually asked a simple question that would alter the course of his professional life: had he ever considered a career in student affairs?
At the time, it was not a path he had seriously imagined. Yet the conversation planted a seed that continued to grow. Looking back, it became one of the defining moments of his career.
Student affairs offered a way to combine education, leadership, community building, and service. More importantly, it aligned with something he was beginning to understand about himself. He was deeply interested in people and the conditions that allow them to thrive.
The Question That Shaped Everything
As Danny’s career progressed, one question continued to surface again and again.
What makes people feel that they belong?
It was a question that extended beyond classrooms and campuses. It touched relationships, organizations, leadership, identity, and community. Over time, it became the foundation of both his professional practice and academic research.
His doctoral work focused on belonging and safe space, giving him the opportunity to explore the concept through both scholarship and lived experience. The deeper he studied, the more convinced he became that belonging was not simply a desirable outcome. It was a fundamental human need.
People perform better when they feel connected. Teams function more effectively when trust exists. Communities become stronger when individuals believe they matter.
These observations were reinforced throughout his leadership journey.
Whether working with students experiencing personal challenges, supporting families during difficult moments, or guiding staff through periods of uncertainty, Danny repeatedly witnessed the transformative power of connection and care.
The question of belonging was no longer academic.
It was deeply human.
Leading Through Complexity and Change
Over the next twenty years, Danny built an impressive leadership career that included roles at Oglethorpe University, the University of Tennessee, San Francisco State University, and ultimately The Ohio State University.
Each institution brought new opportunities and new challenges. Along the way, he developed expertise in organizational culture, crisis leadership, student success, and strategic planning.
His role as Associate Vice President and Dean of Students at Ohio State represented the culmination of years of experience and growth. Serving one of the largest university communities in the country required balancing vision with execution while supporting tens of thousands of students through some of the most important years of their lives.
The work was meaningful and deeply rewarding.
It was also demanding.
Leadership during the pandemic introduced levels of complexity few could have anticipated. Institutions faced unprecedented uncertainty while leaders were tasked with making decisions that affected entire communities.
At the same time, Danny was navigating significant personal changes in his own life.
Like many people, he experienced seasons of grief, transition, and self reflection that challenged long held assumptions about success, leadership, and personal sacrifice.
The death of a close friend during college had already taught him difficult lessons about life’s fragility. Later experiences, including the end of a marriage and the pressures of executive leadership, added new layers of understanding.
Together, they revealed something important.
Sustaining systems should never require people to abandon themselves.
When Success No Longer Felt Sustainable
For years, Danny had watched talented and caring professionals push themselves beyond healthy limits in order to keep institutions functioning.
The pattern was everywhere.
Dedicated leaders carrying impossible workloads. Staff members absorbing increasing responsibilities. Organizations relying on personal sacrifice as a hidden operating strategy.
The consequences were becoming impossible to ignore.
Burnout, exhaustion, disconnection, and declining wellbeing were affecting individuals across every level of leadership.
Danny realized that he, too, had been participating in a culture that often rewarded self sacrifice while overlooking sustainability.
Eventually, a difficult truth became impossible to avoid.
He could continue operating within systems that demanded constant overriding, or he could create something different.
In May 2025, he chose the latter.
He stepped away from higher education leadership and founded Wired for Belonging.
The decision was not about leaving a profession he loved.
It was about expanding the impact he could make.
Building Wired for Belonging
Launching Wired for Belonging allowed Danny to bring together everything he had learned throughout his career.
Research.
Leadership.
Education.
Technology.
Human connection.
The consultancy was built around a simple but powerful belief: people should not have to sacrifice their humanity in order to succeed.
Through coaching, consulting, speaking engagements, workshops, and strategic partnerships, Danny helps leaders and institutions create cultures where belonging, peace, and capacity become part of the system itself.
Rather than treating wellbeing as an afterthought, he encourages organizations to design environments that support people from the beginning.
His work also introduces leaders to practical ways of integrating ethical artificial intelligence into their operations.
Rather than viewing AI as a replacement for human interaction, Danny sees it as a tool that can reduce administrative burden and create more space for meaningful connection.
This philosophy is captured in a phrase that has become central to his work:
“Human Led. AI Assisted. Soul Lived.”
Creating More Human Systems in an AI World
Much of today’s conversation about artificial intelligence focuses on efficiency, productivity, and automation.
Danny believes another conversation is equally important.
How do we remain deeply human in a world increasingly shaped by technology?
His work explores what he describes as the evolving relationship between loneliness, belonging, and technological change.
As digital tools become more integrated into daily life, leaders face important questions about connection, culture, and community.
Technology can accelerate communication, but it cannot replace genuine human relationships.
It can process information, but it cannot create meaning.
It can increase efficiency, but it cannot generate belonging.
For Danny, the future belongs to leaders who understand how to balance innovation with humanity.
The challenge is not choosing between people and technology.
The challenge is ensuring technology serves people.
What Success Means Now
After decades of leadership, Danny’s definition of success has evolved.
Today, success is not measured primarily by titles, recognition, or achievement.
It is measured by alignment.
Success means living and working in ways that reflect personal values, purpose, and integrity. It means making meaningful contributions without sacrificing wellbeing. It means creating impact while remaining connected to what matters most.
The moments that bring him the greatest sense of pride are often the quietest.
A student who felt seen.
A colleague who felt supported.
A team that found its way through uncertainty.
A family that felt reassured during a difficult moment.
These are the experiences that continue to remind him why the work matters.
Looking Ahead
As he looks toward the future, Danny remains focused on helping leaders and institutions create more connected, sustainable, and human centered environments.
Through Wired for Belonging and HeartWired™, he is developing new frameworks, conversations, and learning experiences designed to help organizations navigate complexity without losing sight of humanity.
His vision extends beyond individual institutions.
He hopes to contribute to a broader conversation about leadership in an era defined by rapid change, increasing demands, and evolving technologies.
Now rooted in the St. Louis area near his parents and extended family, Danny is building Wired for Belonging™ and HeartWired™ both locally and nationally. Through these platforms, he partners with leaders, institutions, and mission-driven organizations to create more human-centered systems of belonging, wellbeing, and sustainable success. As his work continues to evolve, he remains committed to helping people and organizations navigate complexity while staying deeply connected to what matters most. Readers can follow his work through his website, LinkedIn presence, The HeartWired™ Beat newsletter, and the Biscuits & Belonging podcast.
At its core, his work is about helping people remember something essential.
Systems exist to serve human beings.
When people feel supported, connected, and valued, they do more than persist.
They thrive.
