Meet Steve
Steve Donnellan is the founder of Sales from Centre™, a coaching and training business that helps wellness practitioners, coaches, and service based professionals approach sales conversations with greater clarity and confidence. Originally from Australia and now based in Dublin, he brings together decades of experience in sales, marketing, and human behaviour to help people navigate decision making conversations in a more grounded way.
A Different Kind of Sales Conversation
For much of his life, Steve Donnellan never imagined himself working in sales. He describes himself as deeply introverted during his younger years, unsure of his own abilities and uncomfortable with the idea of stepping into the spotlight. Yet over time, the very thing that challenged him most became the place where he experienced the greatest personal growth.
What makes Steve’s story compelling is not a dramatic rise to success or a carefully planned career path. His journey unfolded through uncertainty, reinvention, and the slow process of learning how to trust himself. Today, through Sales from Centre™, he helps others move through similar moments of doubt and hesitation, particularly in conversations where money, value, and commitment become emotionally charged.
His work is rooted in a simple belief that sales does not need to feel manipulative or performative. Instead, he sees it as a human interaction built on clarity, steadiness, and honest communication. That perspective was not formed overnight. It emerged through years of setbacks, reflection, and experience across industries and countries.
Learning Through Unexpected Change
Steve’s professional life began in marketing while working for Kawasaki in Australia. He spent nearly a decade there while completing his degree, steadily building experience and confidence within the business. At the time, marketing felt like the natural fit. It aligned with his interest in communication, positioning, and understanding people rather than persuading them.
Then, without warning, his role was made redundant.
The loss forced him into unfamiliar territory. Initially, he resisted moving into sales roles, believing he would quickly return to marketing. Months passed, however, and rejection after rejection slowly reshaped his plans. Eventually, he accepted a sales position out of necessity rather than ambition.
The experience was difficult. Without training or support, he struggled. Instead of finding confidence, he found frustration and uncertainty. Yet beneath the discomfort was a growing awareness that the issue was not sales itself. The issue was that he had never truly understood how to approach it in a way that felt authentic to him.
Rather than giving up, Steve became intentional about learning. He studied sales more seriously, refined his communication style, and rebuilt his understanding from the ground up. Looking back, that period became one of the most important foundations of his career because it shifted his focus away from performance and toward understanding.
“I was never drawn to aggressive or transactional selling. I was more interested in understanding people, what mattered to them, and how value could be communicated in a way that actually resonated.”
That philosophy would quietly shape everything that followed.
Finding Confidence Through Clarity
One of the most significant turning points in Steve’s career came when he joined Australasian Dirt Bike Magazine as Sales and Marketing Manager. Unlike previous roles, this position gave him full ownership of results. It also returned him to a world he already understood well through his background in motorcycles and marketing.
What changed there was not the product itself, but the way he communicated its value. Steve focused less on pressure and more on helping customers clearly understand why the offering mattered to them. The results were substantial. Within two years, advertising revenue grew from $300,000 to more than $1 million annually.
The experience reinforced something he would continue to see throughout his career across both Australia and Ireland. Strong sales conversations were rarely about tactics or scripts. More often, they depended on clarity, trust, and confidence in the value being offered.
When Steve moved to Ireland more than two decades ago, he faced another period of uncertainty. Starting over in a new country required him to rebuild credibility in unfamiliar industries and environments. Yet the transition also deepened his sense of self trust. The consistent results he created across different markets confirmed that his approach was not luck or timing. It was a repeatable way of thinking and communicating.
That confidence continued to grow over the years, but another significant shift arrived in 2021 after watching Simon Sinek’s well known Start with Why TEDx Talk. The experience prompted Steve to look more deeply at the psychology behind sales conversations and leadership. He returned to formal education to study Sales Management and began organising decades of instinctive experience into clear frameworks and principles.
What had once been intuitive became teachable.
The Moment Conversations Begin to Drift
As Steve moved into sales coaching in late 2022, he noticed a recurring pattern among wellness practitioners, coaches, and holistic professionals.
Their conversations with clients often began well. There was trust, empathy, and genuine care. Yet something shifted the moment the discussion moved toward price, commitment, or making a decision. Conversations softened. Momentum disappeared. Potential clients withdrew into uncertainty.
The more Steve researched this dynamic, the clearer it became that the problem was rarely about communication skill alone. It was internal. Practitioners often struggled with the emotional discomfort that surfaced when they needed to lead decisively.
That insight eventually led to the creation of Sales from Centre™ in 2025.
The programme blends practical sales frameworks with emotional steadiness and self leadership. Rather than teaching scripts or pressure techniques, Steve focuses on helping people remain grounded during key decision making moments.
“Sales conversations don’t fall apart at the beginning. They drift at the moment a decision becomes real.”
That sentence sits at the centre of his work because it reflects both his professional experience and his personal growth. Steve understands what it feels like to hesitate, soften, or question oneself in moments of uncertainty. Much of his coaching helps people recognise those patterns without shame and learn how to move through them with greater clarity.
Rebuilding From the Inside Out
While Steve’s career contains clear professional milestones, some of his most meaningful transformations happened privately.
In late 2020, he experienced what he describes as a midlife reset. Questions around direction, identity, and self worth surfaced in ways he could no longer ignore. The experience forced him to slow down and examine how he was living and working rather than continuing on momentum alone.
Like many people who spend years achieving externally, Steve began recognising the importance of internal steadiness. He realised that confidence was not simply built through results. It was built through self awareness, reflection, and the ability to remain grounded during uncertainty.
That understanding became even more personal following a health scare in 2024. The experience challenged the way he approached work life balance and forced him to reconsider how he managed his time and energy.
Rather than making dramatic changes, Steve focused on small, consistent routines that could support stability over time. The lesson stayed with him. Balance, he realised, is not something people achieve once and keep forever. It requires continual attention, especially during demanding periods of growth and ambition.
Those experiences now shape how he leads others. His coaching is not simply about improving sales performance. It is about helping people develop greater self leadership in moments where pressure, fear, or uncertainty begin influencing behaviour.
For Steve, the internal and external sides of business are inseparable.
Creating a More Human Approach to Sales
Today, Sales from Centre™ serves coaches, wellness practitioners, and service based professionals who want to approach sales conversations in a way that feels aligned with who they are.
Many of the people Steve works with entered helping professions because they care deeply about others. Yet they often feel uncomfortable leading conversations around money or commitment. In trying to avoid being perceived as pushy, they unintentionally become unclear or hesitant.
Steve helps them recognise that clarity and care can coexist.
His work focuses on helping clients communicate value honestly, hold steady during difficult moments, and guide conversations toward clear decisions without abandoning their integrity. The transformation, he says, often extends far beyond revenue or conversion rates.
When practitioners learn how to lead those conversations confidently, they begin trusting themselves more deeply. Their businesses become more stable. Their communication becomes clearer. And the people who genuinely need their support are more likely to receive it.
There is also a broader ripple effect to that work. Many of Steve’s clients are already helping others heal, grow, or rebuild their lives. By improving the way those practitioners communicate and enrol clients, Steve believes the impact extends outward into the communities they serve.
That wider sense of contribution matters deeply to him. While he has achieved strong commercial results throughout his career, including sales records and international incentives, he speaks most proudly about building something that feels aligned with his values and lived experience.
The principles guiding his work remain consistent: honesty, trust, self belief, and self leadership. Outside of business, he says friendship and family continue to keep everything in perspective, reminding him that success is not defined solely by professional achievement.
Looking Ahead With Intention
As Steve looks toward the future, his focus remains on expanding the reach of Sales from Centre™ through workshops, partnerships, speaking opportunities, and continued programme development.
More than growth alone, however, he hopes to contribute to a larger cultural shift around how sales is understood. Too often, sales conversations are framed through pressure, persuasion, or performance. Steve believes there is another way forward, one rooted in calm leadership, genuine communication, and trust.
His vision is not about creating louder salespeople. It is about helping people become steadier communicators who can lead difficult conversations without losing themselves in the process.
That mission feels especially relevant in industries built around care, coaching, and personal transformation where emotional intelligence matters just as much as technical skill.
For Steve, success today looks very different from earlier stages of his career. It is no longer measured purely through numbers or achievement. Instead, it is defined by alignment, meaningful impact, and the ability to work in a way that feels honest.
Staying in the Process
Near the end of the conversation, Steve returns to a message that has stayed with him through every stage of his journey: do not give up too early.
He speaks about the image of someone digging for gold and stopping just before breakthrough arrives. The metaphor resonates because his own life has been shaped by moments that initially looked like failure or uncertainty. Losing a job, struggling in early sales roles, rebuilding in a new country, and confronting personal doubt all became turning points that eventually redirected him toward more meaningful work.
What separates those experiences from defeat, he believes, is the willingness to continue learning and growing through discomfort rather than retreating from it.
His story is ultimately not about mastering sales. It is about learning how to remain present and grounded when life asks for more honesty, more clarity, and more self trust.
And perhaps that is why his work resonates with so many people who once believed they were not suited for sales at all. Beneath the business language, Steve Donnellan’s work is really about something far more human: learning how to lead conversations without losing yourself inside them.
